How CookWhatHK works
One recipe book the whole household can read — in everyone's language.
Step 1 of 6
Get set up
Create your account and bring your household together. It takes a minute, and starting is free.
Sign inTap Sign in, then either get a 6-digit code by email or continue with Google — no password to remember. New accounts start with a 30-day free trial, no card needed.
Create or join a householdStarting fresh? Create a household and you become its admin. Family already on CookWhatHK? Enter the 6-character invite code they sent you to join theirs.
Invite your family and cookAs the admin, add each person and send them an invite code, choosing a role for each: a Cook plans the menu and adds recipes; a Family member browses, says if they're eating in, and saves favourites. Everyone shares one household.
Step 2 of 6
Find tonight's dinner
Browse hundreds of Hong Kong home-cooked dishes and keep the ones you love.
Browse and filterOpen Recipes and narrow it down: tap a main ingredient (meat, seafood, egg & tofu, veg), or open Filters for dish type, protein, cooking method and cuisine. Or just search by name.
Open a recipeTap any dish to see its ingredients and step-by-step instructions, with a photo of the finished plate.
Save your favouritesTap the heart on any recipe to keep it in Saved. Your whole household's saves appear together, so you can see what everyone wants to eat.
Step 3 of 6
Plan the week together
Build one shared weekly menu, so whoever's cooking always knows what's for dinner.
Add dishes to the planOpen the Meal plan, tap a meal slot — breakfast, lunch or dinner — and pick recipes for it.
Week view and day viewThe Week view shows the whole week at a glance; tap any day to open the Day view for that day's meals and details.
Everyone stays in syncThe plan is shared across your household and updates live. Family can mark whether they're eating in, so the cook knows how many to cook for.
Step 4 of 6
Say who's eating in
Cooking for four or for one? Everyone marks whether they're eating in, so the cook makes just enough — no waste, no shortfall.
Mark each meal In, Maybe or OutOn the meal plan, everyone taps In, Maybe or Out for each meal. The cook sees a live headcount per meal, so they know exactly how many to cook for.
Set your weekly pattern onceHome for dinner most nights but never lunch? Set your weekly pattern in your profile and CookWhatHK fills it in every week — you only change the days that are different.
Nudge whoever hasn't repliedStill waiting on someone before it's time to cook? Send a one-tap reminder — a phone notification, or a WhatsApp message if they're not in the app.
Family without the app can still replySend anyone a WhatsApp link to their own meal page. They tap In, Maybe or Out for each meal — no account, no sign-in needed.
Step 5 of 6
Read it in your language
Everyone at the table can read the same dish their own way.
Switch a recipe's languageEvery recipe comes in English, 繁體中文, Filipino and Bahasa Indonesia. On a recipe, use the language tabs to switch — handy when the helper reads Filipino and the family reads Chinese. On a wide screen, you can even show two languages side by side.
Switch the whole appUse the language button in the top bar to switch the app's menus and buttons between English, 繁體中文, Filipino and Bahasa Indonesia.
