Oven strengths vary, so 20 minutes is only a guide. You can skip chilling, but the dough will be softer and harder to press into shape.
Cream the softened butter with the sifted icing sugar until pale yellow and fluffy.

Beat the egg into liquid, then add in 2 to 3 batches, mixing well each time.
